From The Belltower to "Stacy's Mom"
According to Wikipedia, Porter first got noticed in the early 1990s fronting the London-based band The Belltower with Britta Phillips. They won singles of the week in Melody Maker and the NME, but broke up after returning to the US in 1996. He then joined Fountains of Wayne at the invitation of his friend Adam Schlesinger. The band's 2003 album Welcome Interstate Managers produced the Top 40 hit "Stacy's Mom."
