Stephen Wicks is a rock songwriter from Cambridge, England. His single "The Doomsday Clock (85 Seconds to Midnight)" has been approved for the U-Rock® Network.

From business to songwriting

Marvel Artz reports that Wicks, now 74, moved into songwriting and recording after a long career in business and property. He is now focused fully on music. He uses his view as "a seasoned observer of world events" to write about climate change, nuclear risk, artificial intelligence and geopolitical instability.

Surround yourself with the best

The single is his fifth release. It was produced by George Shilling, whose credits include Blur, Primal Scream and Steve Winwood. Theory Diary says Shilling's involvement reflects Wicks' belief that "if you want the best, you should surround yourself with the best." Lead guitar is by Stefan Hauk, described as one of Australia's notable young guitarists.

Eighty-five seconds

The song takes its inspiration from the Doomsday Clock kept by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. It comes with a music video built around the image of a clock ticking ever closer to midnight. Marvel Artz says Wicks presents the song "as both a warning and a call for reflection."

Why it matters on U-Rock® Radio

A late-blooming songwriter with a world-class producer and an urgent message: "The Doomsday Clock" now plays on the U-Rock® Network.
