Metal Night Brings Three Regional Heavy Bands to the Kennett Flash

Regional Metal Takes Over the Kennett Flash Friday Night

KENNETT SQUARE, PA — A 100-seat room can matter a great deal to a band building an audience. Friday night, the Kennett Flash gives three regional heavy acts exactly that kind of room.

Tempting the Tides, GraveLord and Ashes To Vanity take over The Kennett Flash on Friday, September 18, for an all-ages Metal Night bringing original heavy music into the heart of Kennett Square.

The show starts at 8 p.m., and the venue currently lists tickets at $15 to $18. The Kennett Flash lists the night as all ages.

This isn't a tribute package filling a calendar slot. These are developing heavy bands playing the kind of room where regional music scenes are actually built.

Tempting the Tides Cross the Delaware Line

Tempting the Tides comes into Kennett Square from northern Delaware with a new self-titled EP already behind it.

The three-song release arrived May 15 and features “Consequences,” “Undertow” and “Bloodlust.” The band followed that release with a June show at Bar XIII in Wilmington where physical CD copies of the EP were available at the merch table.

For an emerging regional band, that progression matters: write the songs, record them, release them independently, manufacture something listeners can actually take home, and then carry that music into neighboring markets.

Friday night puts Tempting the Tides across the Pennsylvania line and in front of another local audience.

Three Bands, One Regional Stage

GraveLord adds another piece of the Philadelphia-area heavy scene to Friday's lineup. The band's current material identifies its sound as PHL nu-metalcore, placing it within the heavier regional circuit surrounding Philadelphia.

Ashes To Vanity completes the three-band bill, giving Kennett Square a full evening centered on original heavy music.

That combination is important. Regional scenes don't grow only through major touring acts. They develop when bands can share stages, exchange audiences and gradually expand the distance they're capable of drawing listeners from.

Why a 100-Seat Room Matters

The Kennett Flash describes itself as a 100-seat, all-ages, stage-centered, café-style listening room operated by a nonprofit performing-arts organization.

Small doesn't mean insignificant.

A room this size gives a developing band something a social-media number can't: actual people on the other side of the PA system.

It's where bands discover which songs connect. It's where they learn changeovers, merchandise, ticket sales, load-in, soundcheck and the sometimes unforgiving mathematics of getting people through a door.

And it's where somebody who has never heard a band can become the person who buys the record, wears the shirt and brings three friends the next time around.

The Flash regularly presents national, regional and local performers, allowing a room of this size to serve as one of the stepping stones between making music locally and beginning to build a wider audience.

That's connective tissue a local music scene needs.

For WNKO-dB, that's why Friday's show is more than another calendar listing.

Kennett Square sits within reach of musicians and listeners from southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, South Jersey and northern Maryland. A bill bringing parts of that regional scene into one small room gives independent artists another place to build an audience without first having to become large enough to bypass the local level entirely.

Friday night, that means three bands, one small room and original heavy music.

Sometimes that's exactly where something bigger begins.
