COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — Tongue Action aren't wasting much time introducing themselves. The Colorado Springs rock ’n’ roll outfit released their self-titled eight-song album on September 25 through Warsaw, Poland's Heavy Medication Records, turning what had been a rapid-fire introduction into a full-length statement pressed onto wax. Heavy Medication Records The timing tells a good part of the story. Tongue Action had only recently put out their debut 7-inch through Sioux Records before moving directly into the eight-song Tongue Action. Heavy Medication describes the band as a collision of '70s punk, '80s sleaze metal and straight-ahead rock ’n’ roll, and that's a useful map for an album that doesn't seem particularly interested in keeping those genres separated.

Heavy Medication Records At the center of the band is Pablo Ono, whose résumé runs through Electric Frankenstein, Killer Hearts, The Guillotines, Shit City High and BlackNovas. There's another connection to Killer Hearts here as well: members of that band appear on five of the album's eight tracks. Heavy Medication Records The record starts with “Kill City Riot,” a five-and-a-half-minute opener that Heavy Medication positions somewhere between the dark punk attack of Lords of the New Church and sleaze metal. From there, Tongue Action move through “Hi-5,” “WTFDIK” and “Raunch City Romp” before reaching “Emily Baby,” one of the songs that predates this album. Heavy Medication Records That reuse of earlier material actually helps show how quickly this band has developed. “Emily Baby” previously appeared on February's four-song Rock 'n' Roll Zero! release alongside “Wild Women,” “RMFR” and “Seduce & Destroy.” That earlier record already established Tongue Action's mixture of punk, garage, hard rock and glammy excess; the new LP expands the idea rather than starting over. Tongue Action The second half brings “Shake, Rattle & Die!,” “Oh Beast!” and “Wild Nights/Wild Rose.” Heavy Medication hears a T. Rex-like menace colliding with arena rock in “Oh Beast!”, while the closing “Wild Nights/Wild Rose” heads toward stomping glam territory, complete with saxophone. Heavy Medication Records There is also something wonderfully old-school about how Tongue Action has arrived. This isn't an American band simply dropping eight files onto the streaming services and calling the job finished. A Colorado Springs group has partnered with an independent label based in Warsaw, Poland, and the record has been manufactured as a proper 12-inch release. And Heavy Medication leaned into the artwork when it came time to press it. The physical edition is a red-and-black splatter 12-inch, extending the color scheme of the sleeve directly onto the record itself. The label lists the vinyl at €24, alongside the digital edition.

Heavy Medication Records That cross-Atlantic connection fits the music surprisingly well. Tongue Action's sound draws from several strains of rock ’n’ roll that have maintained fiercely dedicated audiences outside the American mainstream — punk, garage, glam, action rock and the dirtier end of hard rock — and Heavy Medication has built its catalog around exactly that territory. The Warsaw label describes itself simply as an independent rock ’n’ roll label, and its catalog stretches across punk, garage and underground rock releases. Heavy Medication Records There's already evidence that the band's earlier material was getting noticed beyond Colorado. Reviewing Rock 'n' Roll Zero! in April, UK outlet RPM Online highlighted its raw production and mixture of hard rock and punk and specifically noted that a Heavy Medication LP was already on the way. Five months later, that record is here. RPM Online For a band still at the beginning of its recorded history, that's a lot of ground covered quickly: an introductory release, an overseas label relationship and now a full eight-song album with an international physical pressing. Tongue Action didn't spend 2026 slowly introducing themselves. They kicked the door open, and Tongue Action is the record on the other side.
