|Description: The Way Low Down plays upbeat folk music that mixes old time music, bluegrass instrumentation, and reggae rhythms.|
|Biography: At first glance, The Way Low Down looks like they’ll play bluegrass music. The makings of a bluegrass band are all there – acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin, upright bass. But when the band starts playing, it’s immediately obvious that, despite the instruments, this is not bluegrass. It’s something quite different – an upbeat acoustic blend of americana and folk, with hints of reggae.
When The Way Low Down formed in early 2009, they knew they wanted to do something different. Something would create a truly new musical experience not only for their listeners, but for the band members themselves.
Which is why, despite backgrounds spanning alternative rock, classical composition, jam bands, trance music and singer/songwriter music, The Way Low Down set out to play upbeat folk music. Not only was the genre new, many of the instruments were new to the musicians. Josh had played mandolin for less than a year, and Sean recorded his first demo with The Way Low Down two days after buying and beginning to learn his upright bass.
The Way Low Down’s goal in all of this is to bring new perspective to a classic genre, to bring new audiences to old instruments. The Way Low Down truly brings an innovative approach to rustic music.
