Ken Stringfellow connects four very different releases

Ken Stringfellow’s latest release roundup is a map of musical relationships rather than a single producer’s showcase. The Posies co-founder, who has also toured and recorded with R.E.M. and Big Star, highlighted four very different listening stops in a November 6 post.
That wider circle includes U-Rock®. Ken has contributed vocals and studio work to Kevin Timothy’s recording projects, including “Beyond Belief” and “Cargo City.” The releases below are separate projects, with different artists, credits and histories.
Start with the Hamburg connection
Mimi Schell’s Le Salon Vert is a six-track EP released November 6. Schell, a singer-songwriter from Hamburg, has worked with Stringfellow since meeting him in 2013. Her official credits list him as producer and engineer at Hamburg studios and as the EP’s instrumentalist, with several guests joining them. “Kindness Is Strong,” “Listen to the Wind” and “Do It with Love,” featuring BAAST!, are among its songs.

An imagined band comes to life
OTTER’s Otter Voices, Otter Rooms begins with an invented premise: Stringfellow imagined a missing band from 1978 and their lost post-punk album. Dutch musicians then entered the real studio process. He says he produced and mixed the album in the Netherlands and portrays its bassist. The ten-track ManCat Records release includes “Massacre,” “When Boys Fall in Love” and “American Redeemer.”

Four days with the Rayguns
Stunning Rayguns’ Novalunosis is the Astoria, Oregon duo’s first album. Ren Allen and Raymond Martin formed the group in the summer of 2023. Stringfellow says the seven-track record took four days at his studio; the official credits confirm his production, engineering and mixing. Hear Novalunosis on Bandcamp. He hears echoes of Sonic Youth, Breeders and My Bloody Valentine in its layered approach—his comparison, not a suggestion that the duo is copying those bands.
A Stringfellow song, another voice
Nada UV’s “Any Sign at All,” featuring Lacey Lune, reverses the production relationship. Emerson Dameron’s project covers a song from Stringfellow’s first solo album, This Sounds Like Goodbye. Lune sings it; Stringfellow explicitly notes that this is not his production. The track appears on Nada UV’s 14-track Metronome, released July 2.

Four different reasons to press play. Stringfellow also lists his own Circuit Breaker in his Bandcamp catalog.
